How Plants Move Water | CMSMatHome

Good morning from #CMSMatHome!

Do you know what transpiration is? Let’s explore together by experimenting with some celery and colored water.

Transpiration is the process of water moving through a plant. The plant will absorb water through its roots, then have it evaporate through pores in its leaves.

Get a stalk of celery with some leaves on, a clear cup, and food coloring. Red coloring is usually the best. Pour about an inch of water into your cup, add one teaspoon of food coloring to it, then place the celery in the red water.

Watch for the leaves turning red and, after a few days, cut the celery stalk in half and look for the tubes, or capillaries within the stalk.
