Join us Saturday, May 2 from 9am to 1pm for one of the most exciting safety events we have ever hosted at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota! The Bike Safety Clinic brings together local safety experts, cycling enthusiasts, and a jaw-dropping BMX stunt show to give children a day they’ll be talking about all summer long.
Whether your child is just learning to balance on two wheels or has been riding for years, this event is packed with hands-on stations, expert guidance, and seriously cool giveaways. Here’s everything you need to know.

Mega Jump BMX Stunt Show
That’s right, we’re welcoming Mega Jump, a high-energy BMX stunt show powered by a positive message. Watch professional riders soar, spin, and inspire at two electrifying performances, the first at 10am and the second at 12pm. Clear your schedule because you do not want to miss this!
Local BMX riders Evan Gemlo and Jace Deegan will also be on-site from Kato BMX, geared up, bikes in hand, and ready to inspire the next generation of riders to give it a try.
16 Interactive Stations, Something for Every Rider

The Museum will be loaded with stations led by local experts, businesses, and community organizations. Kids bring their bikes and rotate through activities at their own pace. Just a few of the stations include:
- Safety Town from Minnesota TZD (Towards Zero Deaths)
- Helmet personalization station
- Bike wash station
- Bike license plates
- Mankato Area Mountain Bikers (MAMB)
- Adaptive bikes from SMILES Center for Independent Living
- Riding course courtesy of Mankato PD
- Bike maintenance information from Key City Bike
- Greater Mankato Area Bike Walk Advocates (GMABWA)
Free Gear, Sweet Treats, and More
On top of the interactive learning, we’ve lined up some genuinely great giveaways:
- Free bike helmets (while supplies last) thanks to our friends at Scheels Mankato, with professional fittings so every helmet actually fits right.
- Free water bottles courtesy of Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry
- 50 free DQ Mankato ice cream coupons for kids who bring their bikes and hit the course
- McDonald’s “I Got Caught” coupons handed out by Mankato Police Department to kids spotted wearing their helmets
- Reflective safety strips from the Southern MN Trauma Advisory Council
What Families Will Learn
This isn’t just a fun day out. It’s a genuine safety education experience. Children and families will leave knowing how to properly fit a helmet, how to check their bike before every ride, and how to navigate roads safely and confidently. Topics covered include hand signals, road rules, visibility, obstacle navigation, and traffic-safety simulations, all taught by friendly and encouraging instructors in a completely supportive environment.
Bring Your Bike!
Children are encouraged to bring their own bikes to participate in the riding stations and obstacle courses. All skill levels are welcome, from brand-new riders to confident cyclists. Best of all, it’s included with Museum admission or membership. Plan your visit here – we can’t wait to see you ride!
