November 18, 2020 COVID-19 Update

CMSM Closing for 4 Weeks in Response to COVID-19

In adherence with Governor Walz’s latest Stay Safe MN order in response to COVID-19, the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota temporarily closed, effective November 18. The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota will continue to follow guidelines set by Governor Walz, and will reopen as soon as it is deemed safe and allowable.

CMSM remains committed to providing a safe environment for all employees and guests and supporting efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. Since reopening on October 1, 2020, CMSM has expanded our already robust cleaning and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all visitors. We plan to welcome visitors back with these safety measures still in place in December.

CMSM Membership Extensions

All 2020 Memberships are eligible for an extension of the total time the Museum has been closed. If you wish to request an extension, please contact CMSM’s office either via phone at (507) 386-0279 or via email. Members are still encouraged to renew their membership, donate, or adjust their membership to our new Sustaining Membership level. Through these actions, we can ensure the Museum can successfully reopen its doors to the community.

CMSM’s Continued Support of Children & Families

To all of our Museum members and guests, please know how much we miss you! We appreciate your continued support during this difficult time. While our physical location is closed, we encourage all families to access our free CMSMatHome series of educational play prompts to keep the fun and learning going at home. While CMSM is closed, we continue to develop plans for future exhibits for all to enjoy when we are able to be together in person again. Follow us on Facebook or sign up for our mailing list to stay informed of the latest updates.

How You Can Support CMSM

Your support is needed now more than ever. As a small nonprofit organization, CMSM relies on admission revenue, memberships, and gift shops sales for a significant portion of our income. The pandemic has placed us in a difficult financial situation, and we humbly ask for your support during this time.

Donate to CMSM

If you are able, please consider becoming a sustaining donor of CMSM. Your ongoing monthly donation (of any amount) ensures our ability to provide awe-inspiring environments and experiences for years to come. If a one time donation fits your situation better, that’s great too! No amount is too small; donations of all sizes have a significant impact.

Amazon Smile

If you are an Amazon shopper, you can designate CMSM as your Amazon Smile charity, and Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to CMSM. This is at no additional cost to you! Designate CMSM as your Amazon Smile charity here.

Purchase a Membership

Now is an excellent time to purchase a gift membership to the Museum for a special child or family in your life. You can purchase memberships for your own family or as gifts online here. We recently introduced a NEW Sustaining Monthly membership, which allows you to pay for your membership in monthly installments of $10 rather than a one-time payment of $108 (an 11 month commitment is required to become a Sustaining Member; more details are available on the Member Sign-up page).

Your continued support plays an important role in keeping CMSM as strong as possible. If you’re able, please help us continue to ignite the natural curiosity of every child through the power of play in a dynamic, awe-inspiring environment for years to come.

We hope to see you back soon. Until then, take care, stay healthy, and keep playing!
