CMSM Celebrates 5th Birthday

Today, we celebrate five memorable years of the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota! Although CMSM was around long before May 1, 2015, that is the day we officially opened the doors of our current location at 224 Lamm St in downtown Mankato. Oh, the memories that have been made here!

Let’s Celebrate!

We had big plans to celebrate this milestone with our members, visitors, founders, volunteers, and board members, but the current COVID-19 Pandemic and related closure has forced us to postpone our birthday party. Throughout our history, CMSM has been resilient and adaptable above all else, and this current situation is another example of that. Rather than let the day simply pass, we are instead throwing a virtual birthday party over on our social media accounts! We asked current and former CMSM staff, volunteers, members, and board members to share their favorite memories from these last five years. Wow, what a trip down Memory Road it has been to see and hear everyone’s stories! From installing the iconic Mankato Clinic Tree of Forts Climber staircase, to the Grand Opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, and releasing monarch butterflies in the Prairie Garden, countless memories have been enjoyed by all, young and old. We’ve posted a few of our favorites below, but be sure to head over to Facebook and Instagram to see many more, and to share your own as well!

Looking Ahead

While our physical building is not currently open to the public, we are still working hard behind the scenes to bring play, learning, and fun to the children of southern Minnesota. Be sure to check out our #CMSMatHome activities, with today’s activity designed with our birthday in mind!

Although we aren’t able to celebrate together today, we will reschedule the birthday party as soon as possible. Trust us, this is a celebration you won’t want to miss!

Here’s to another 5 wonderful years!
