Birthday Mud Pie | CMSMatHome

It’s the Museum’s 5th birthday today and we’d love for you to join the party, right here with #CMSMatHome!

To help celebrate, we’re asking you to bake the best treat a children’s museum would ever want: a birthday mud pie! Post your creation in the comments through the end of the day on Sunday, May 3, and you will be entered into a drawing for a prize.

Let’s get to work!

Gather some essentials: a bucket, some dirt and water, a cake pan or some other dish of choice, a shovel or a kitchen utensil that’s allowed to get a little bit dirty, and a variety of found materials to serve as frosting and toppings.

Mix dirt and water and pat this mud mixture into your cake pan. Bake it in the sun until almost dry, then gently tip out onto the sidewalk, a piece of cardboard, or your own mud kitchen counter. Decorate your mud-dessert and show us what you’ve got!

Frosting Ideas

  • Gloppy mud frosting
  • Moss frosting layers
  • Sand sugar sprinkles
  • Pine needle coconut topping
  • Small pebble marshmallows

Decorations

  • Dandelion blossoms
  • Violets
  • Small pine cones
  • Clovers
