Mayo Clinic Health System + Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota
This partnership brings together wellness and play experts to positively impact the health of children and families in our region.
We have partnered with Mayo Clinic Health System to provide opportunities for families and children to gain greater awareness about health and wellness.
The partnership includes special programming specializing in wellness from infancy through parenthood.
— Healthy Habits All Summer Long
Visitors to the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota will be outside taking part in activities that reinforce healthy habits on the morning of the first Friday of June, July and August. During this time, Mayo residents will be on-site playing alongside, and interacting with, guests around the importance of staying hydrated, eating well and being active.
Dates: June 4, July 2 and Aug. 6. All sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
— Wellness and Career Exploration for Tweens
Programming outside of the typical school day (either during no-school days or after school) will focus on children ages 5-12. Visitors will be able to participate in activities including casting clinics, a suturing experience, learning about healthy eating and herbal medicine, meditation, and learning how to take a blood pressure reading. Mayo Clinic Health System staff will work alongside children during these hands-on activities and discuss career exploration in the medical field.
Dates: April 1, June 19, Oct. 21, Oct. 22 and Nov. 12
— Infant Partnerships program
This program seeks to support first-time parents or those who are caring for an infant. Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota staff, several early childhood expert volunteers, and Mayo residents will team up to offer content specific to babies and toddlers from birth to 2 years of age. This drop-in program will be offered in the Infant & Toddler Play Porch. at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota. Specific topics will be highlighted each session, including sleep, development, feeding and parent-child bonding. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and steer the conversation however it is most helpful.
Dates: July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 26, Nov. 23, Dec. 28. All sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
— Toddler Wednesday: Wellness for Higher Impact
On the second Wednesday of each month, Toddler Wednesday program activities will focus on one of the six areas of wellness: move, discover, maintain, sleep, eat well and relax. Mayo Clinic Health System family medicine and pediatrics providers will support program activities by sharing tips and information during sessions, and being available for questions. Staff from the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota will lead the program’s hands-on activities for children.
International Day of the Girl
Saturday, October 9, 10am-3pm
The world is home to more the 1.1 billion girls under age 18 who are poised to become the largest generation of female leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers the world has ever seen. Each year, CMSM marks this event by hosting an International Day of the Girl celebration along with MCHS and other regional leaders. In coordination with the global agenda for advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls everywhere, CMSM will assemble speakers, programs, and experiences that support the social emotional well-being and career aspirations of girls regionally.
